Stories and legends
Kolašin, although a small town, offers a rich experience full of legends, traditions and magical nature. Spend an hour exploring it and you will immediately discover the strange stories and customs that bring this town to life.
Legends about fairies:
- Pešića Lake: According to legend, a fairy lives in the lake and enchants people with her song and dance. Her presence is said to bring happiness and love to those who see her.
- Captain's Lake: This lake was named after Captain Mušović, where the fairies would bathe and drink water. When they were done, they would close the spring and leave. One night the fairies forgot to close the spring and the lake flooded the katun where the captain lived.
- Mrtvica River Canyon: In this canyon, according to legend, you meet fairies who dance to the sounds of the Dead and fulfill wishes.
Legend of Biograd Lake:
This legend tells about two brothers who quarreled over the division of grain. In his rage, one brother killed the other. Their mother, overcome with grief, cursed her son, and her curse created a lake at the place where the accident happened.
The legend of the "Wedding Cemetery":
There is also a legend that can be heard when passing by the "Svatovsko groblje", a place that remains famous for how the wedding party who went to pick up the bride, with several horses, was left stranded in a blizzard. And indeed, every time it stops at this place, tourists are advised to warm up well before getting out of the vehicle, because of the strong northerly wind that is constant in this part of the mountain.
Traditional games:
Kolašin is famous for its traditional games, there are 42 of them and 14 of them are protected as intangible cultural heritage. Each of these games has a rich history. It is a unique opportunity to get acquainted with the old customs and culture of this region.
