1. Biogradska Gora National Park and Biogradsko Lake<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Biogradsko Lake is one of the most beautiful natural sites in Montenegro and the most famous location within Biogradska Gora National Park. Situated at 1,090 meters above sea level, the lake is surrounded by dense forest belonging to one of the last remaining primeval forests in Europe. This is exactly why the area has exceptional natural and landscape value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The distance from Kola\u0161in to the lake is about 19 km. The road follows the main highway toward Mojkovac, then turns right onto a local road that enters the national park. At the entrance, there is a gate where an entrance fee is charged, after which you continue driving a few more kilometres through the forest to a parking area next to the lake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A walk around Biogradsko Lake is one of the most popular activities for visitors. The maintained trail is about 3 km long and runs through the forest along the lake shore, offering many scenic viewpoints and resting spots. The trail is easy and suitable for recreational visitors, families, and anyone who wants to enjoy nature without demanding hiking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For those seeking a longer excursion, a hiking trail leads from the lake valley to the Bendovac viewpoint. From here, you can enjoy a wide view of the lake and surrounding mountain slopes covered in primeval forest\u2014one of the last preserved ecosystems of its kind in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Mora\u010da Monastery and Mrtvica Canyon<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Moraca Monastery is a medieval Orthodox monastery built in 1252, known for its frescoes and architecture. It is located about 25 km from Kolasin, and the drive takes 30 minutes along the main road toward Podgorica. Parking is available next to the monastery. Visitors can explore the monastery, but respect for silence and proper behavior is recommended. The area is also suitable for a short nature break, and a short walk leads to the Svetigora waterfall, located directly below the monastery, whose waters flow into the Moraca River. Nearby is the Kaludjerov Bridge, one of Kolasin\u2019s protected cultural and historical monuments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mrtvica Canyon is an impressive mountain canyon near Kolasin, about 30 km from the town. It can be reached by driving toward Podgorica and then turning toward the village of Medjurijecje, where parking is available at the start of the trail. The canyon is ideal for hiking. The trail follows the Mrtvica River through the canyon, with several viewpoints and great photo spots. It is moderately demanding and about 13 km long (round trip). Spring is especially beautiful, as the river water level is optimal and the surroundings are lush and green.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Bjelasica Mountain and Eco-Katun Vranjak

Bjelasica Mountain is known for its gentle peaks, meadows, and dense forests\u2014ideal for spring walks and light hiking. It is 15 km far from Kolasin, with a driving time of about 20 minutes. This mountain range is perfect for spring hiking and offers stunning panoramic views. It is home to six glacial lakes: Pesica Lake, Big and Small Ursulovacko Lakes, Big and Small Sisko Lakes, and Biogradsko Lake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trails are suitable for easy walks and family trips, as well as hiking tours to viewpoints overlooking surrounding peaks and valleys. All trails on Bjelasica are safe, as the terrain is mostly free of steep cliffs and scree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eco-katun Vranjak is one of the most authentic mountain settlements in Montenegro, offering insight into a traditional lifestyle that still exists at higher altitudes. Built in a traditional style, it features shepherd huts where visitors can stay overnight, homemade food, and a lifestyle in harmony with nature. Visitors can combine short walks around the katun with tasting local specialties and enjoying views of the surrounding peaks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sinjavina is the largest mountain in Montenegro. Together with the Lipovo village, it represents one of the most important natural attractions in Kolasin. The mountain is known for rural households and camping areas where visitors can try local products and enjoy the landscape. Tourists call it a small Switzerland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visits can last a few hours, a full day, or even include an overnight stay in rural households or campsites. From Kolasin, the road to Lipovo follows the main road toward Mojkovac and then a local road to the village. The drive takes about 20 minutes. Parking is available in the village, which serves as a starting point for walks, although visitors can continue by car on a gravel road to the Vratlo area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mountain offers easy trails suitable for walks ranging from one hour to several hours. 5. Moraca Mountains and Kapetanovo Lake<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Moraca Mountains lie between Kolasin and Podgorica, in central part of Montenegro. They are characterized by rugged terrain, deep valleys, and high peaks, making them one of the most beautiful mountain regions in the country.\nKapetanovo Lake is located below the Moraca Mountains, near Mountain Lukavica. Nestled between surrounding peaks, the lake can be reached by an asphalt road from Niksic, while from Kolasin it is accessible via a gravel road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
